Lives and works in Hove, East Sussex

I am a painter who makes large-scale installations. They are portals into other worlds. Some works are participatory, others are like a trompe l’oeil. Buoyant and colourful they relate to the theatre, the interplay of boundaries and discuss the notion of the Renaissance framing/window in painting. I use industrial plastics juxtaposed with domestic, everyday plastics that are deflated and reused into future works. The materials hold a tactility, which against the sheer backdrop of their imposing scale creates for a curious encounter. Recently I have been researching the history of colour, looking at Werner’s ‘Nomenclature Of Colours’ from 1814 and reading James Fox’s ‘The World According to Colour’. I have been interested in how I can use contained or infused colour from packaging to have a dialogue with painted colour, expanding on conversations of translucency, saturation and plasticity.

I am currently on the Executive Committee of Artists’ Union England (I am also one of the founding members).
